Blue faced over money

20090706-picture

There is a story behind this picture, so here it is:

That's me on my paraglider. Apparently, when I'm on my paraglider I am thinking about money, hence the pound signs (I thought they were Euro signs, but Elena assures me that she was showing him what pound signs looked like recently, so I guess that’s what they are).  I am thinking so hard about money that my face has gone blue and then I crashed, but was alright, except that I have torn my (left) shirt sleeve and hurt my knee. Kyle rescued me and took me to the hospital.  So far as I can tell, that is the full story, so errr... the end!

Innocence

The other day, whilst watching ‘Brainjitsu’, a sort of thinking child’s competition programme (on BFBS 3 kids’ ‘room785’), in which contestants compete to be last ‘man’ standing and thus win thru’ a series of mental and physical challenges, the competitors were down to two, a boy and a girl.  Normally, in this situation, Kyle announces that he wants the boy to win, however this day he said he wanted the girl to win.  “Oh, why is that?”  I asked.  “because”, he said, “I don’t like little boys to be brown!”  EeeeeK!   I thought.  We’ll need to have a little chat about that, but ultimately, I am not too concerned, since three of his best friends are Fijian and therefore, of a rather ‘dusky’ pigment!  Suffice to say, he never batted an eyelid at this exclamation and didn’t feel it needed any explanation and neither did I ask for one.  Kids will be kids and what is perceived as a terrible prejudice by adults, can actually be nothing at all to a child.  If we, as adults didn’t get so excited and bang on about things like this (yes I’ve said it before, learned a lesson from our kids) I reckon the world would be a much better place!  Truth be told, I found it quite funny!
